Street appeal (or curb appeal) is often the difference between a potential buyer stopping, or driving on. By removing clutter and tired looking plants, adding a fresh layer of mulch to the garden and cleaning the outside of the building and the driveway, you could potentially attract more interest. The idea is to present a home that doesn’t represent a project to a buyer, as this could be used as a bargaining tool during negotiations.

Meet you at the front door

Potential buyers will be greeted at the front door, so it needs to be clean with a homely touch, such as twin pot plants or a nice door mat... or why not both?

Spring Spruce Up

Make it as easy as possible for people to imagine what their own furniture could look like in your home. The best way to do this is to de-clutter and pare back a lot of your personal items. By taking appliances off the bench and reducing the amount of ornaments and photos on display, you will give your home a larger feel and make it more suitable for the tastes of others. A bowl brimming with fresh fruit is often a nice touch in the kitchen; it adds colour and a homely feel.

Light and Bright

If the weather on the day allows for it, open all your doors and make sure that curtains and blinds are neatly drawn back as far as possible. It’s amazing how fresh a house can feel with a natural breeze running through it. Put all the lights on to avoid the appearance of any dark corners as this gives the illusion of space and cleanliness.

Welcome to our Home

One of the nicest things to see in a home is how functional and attractive it can look when it is being used to entertain. To add a nice touch, set the table with a casual look as if it’s ready to be used. A large jug of water with lemon pieces, some plates, cutlery and napkins always looks inviting. And don’t forget the wine glasses!

A Touch of Nature

If you have a great garden, bring it indoors! Add a striking centerpiece like a flower arrangement or collection of small leafy stems to the kitchen bench or sideboard. Alternatively, grab a bunch of something bright at a florist or supermarket.

Back to Basics in the Bedroom

We don’t want to see your personal effects! Take your bedrooms back to basics and present them like a simply styled hotel suite. Fresh and simple bed spreads or quilt covers with some complementing cushions will do the job with minimum investment. Ensure the beds are made neatly, posters are removed from walls and features are kept to a tasteful minimum.

Beautiful Bathrooms

As with the dining room, style your bathroom/s to look as though you are expecting guests. Again, try to project the look of a smart hotel. Matching bath towels, hand towels and bath mats complete the look simply, along with a nice soap dispenser. Ensure all personal effects are removed to prevent a cluttered appearance.

Create the Mood

Try not to use an overpowering air freshener immediately prior to an open house; the scent of fresh flowers is inviting enough. Pop a CD on with some casual, laid back music on low volume to create a nice mood. It’s amazing how the right music can slow people down and make them take their time while having a really good look through your home. We don’t want them hurrying through!

Your Best Hour

Also, if you live in a busy street, there may be times where traffic is at a lesser peak and this should also be taken into consideration.
